ED 322 - Critical Approaches to Children’s Literature

Students use a variety of frameworks including inclusive, culturally responsive/sustaining, and critical pedagogy/literacy approaches to analyze children’s books inside and outside the traditional canon. Students form an evidence-based rationale for why children deserve and require ample opportunities to see themselves and learn about others in texts. They create three integrated inclusive text sets grounded in children’s interests and experiences and connected to academic (e.g., language arts, health) and social justice standards. Satisfies the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion requirement.
