Athletic Training

(We are no longer accepting applications for the undergraduate athletic training program. The final cohort will graduate in May 2022)

Accreditation

The athletic training education program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).

Requirements

Requirements for the athletic training education program are as follows:

  1. SAT Scores
    A combined score of at least 1100 on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, and Math portions of the SAT.
  2. Promotion and Graduation
    Students must achieve a “C+” (77) or better in all athletic training courses and sciences. Courses can only be repeated once. Students must also have a 2.5 GPA at the beginning of their junior year to be promoted and graduated from Endicott College. At selected points in the program, students must pass a comprehensive examination to continue in the major.
  3. Clinical Sites
    The clinical coordinator of athletic training places students in formal clinical sites. Students gain a variety of clinical experiences under the direct supervision of Endicott’s certified athletic training staff and through placements at our formal affiliations with high schools, colleges, and sports medicine clinics.
  4. Transportation to Clinical Sites
    Students are responsible for their own transportation to clinical sites.
  5. Transfer Students
    (from another athletic training education program)
    Transfer students from another college must present a course description of each athletic training course taken and a transcript from the previous program for evaluation by the Athletic Training Curriculum Committee. A grade of “C+” or better is required for transfer credit to be considered for all athletic training courses and science courses.
  6. Technical Standards
    In order to register for classes and before students can be officially enrolled in the athletic training education program, they must sign the form that states that they meet the technical standards for the program, which is a requirement of the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). This form may be obtained from the Athletic Training Student Manual and the Endicott College website.   
  7. CORI Check and Drug/Alcohol Screening
    Some clinical sites may require students and faculty to have a Criminal Offenders Records Information (CORI) check and/or agree to be subject to drug/alcohol screening prior to participation in a clinical education experience at their agency.
     

The athletic training education program meets all eligibility requirements for students to sit for the Board of Certification examination.

  

Coaching Certification

The coaching certification program provides students with knowledge in the care and prevention of injury, principles associated with coaching, basic nutritional guidelines, personal health issues, and the role of sports in society. In addition, sport-specific field experiences assist in the development of practice organization, coaching techniques, and strategies. Students who wish to become certified in coaching by the School of Sport Science and Fitness Studies must complete a separate application with the dean of the school.

Exercise Science Major with Allied Health Concentration (Bachelor of Science)


Requirements
Requirements for the Exercise Science with Allied Health Concentration program are as follows:

A. Concentration requirements
Students may apply to the concentration at the completion of their first year (freshmen) semester. To become accepted, students must demonstrate a minimum of a B- in their core exercise science courses, as well as, Anatomy & Physiology I (BIO201).

B. Promotion and Graduation
Students must achieve a minimum of a B- (80) or better in all exercise science/allied health concentration courses and sciences. Courses can only be repeated once. Students must also have an overall 3.0 GPA at the beginning of their junior year to be promoted and graduated from Endicott College.

Exercise Science/Pre-Professional Athletic Training Major (Bachelor of Science)


Curriculum Requirements- Total Credits Required: 174


Promotion and Graduation
Students must maintain a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA, complete all prerequisite core coursework with a C+ or better, and meet academic and professional standards for matriculation into the master’s degree program at the end of their junior year.


Post Admission Requirements
A. Students must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA, complete all prerequisite core coursework with a C+ or better, and meet academic and professional standards for matriculation into the master’s degree program.
B. Prerequisite coursework includes:4 credits Human Anatomy (with lab)
C. 4 credits Human Physiology (with lab)
D. Documented minimum of 30 hours under the direct supervision of a certified athletic trainer.
E. Students must hold current certification in BLS Healthcare Provider.
F. Students must meet the Technical Standards and expectations with or without accommodations.

Continued Matriculation and Graduation
Once in the professional (graduate) phase of the program students must maintain a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Students receiving grades lower than B- for six graduate credits will be placed under academic review. Students will be placed under academic probation if their GPA falls below 3.0. Continued unsatisfactory academic progress may lead to dismissal or loss of financial aid. Failure to meet or maintain any of the program’s Technical Standards may also result in dismissal from the program.
