EDU 720 - Narrative Methods, Portraiture, and Autoethnography


Narrative methods have shaped the social sciences since the founding of psychology, sociology and related fields. This course is designed as an introduction to those methods, their application to real world problems, and the potential and limitations of these varied approaches. Students will learn how to develop data collection methods that evoke narrative, examine extant archives for narrative analysis, and learn and apply methods including archival analysis, narrative analysis, visual narrative analysis (including photovoice), poetic inquiry, portraiture, autoethnography, and collaborative autoethnography or duoethnography.
