School of Sport Science

School of Sport Science

Within the School of Sport Science, students select innovative majors in exercise science, exercise science allied health,  exercise science/pre-professional athletic training and sport management. Graduate program offerings include a master of science in Sport Leadership and a master of science in Athletic Training. Over the last 30 years, the sport science field has evolved into a professional enterprise, and as a result of the tremendous growth, the knowledge base in the sport science disciplines has increased in both depth and breadth. These developments and adaptations within the sports domain are reflected in the interdisciplinary program specializations at Endicott. (We are no longer accepting applications for the undergraduate athletic training program. The final cohort will graduate in May 2022)

With today’s dynamic and changing sports industry, our mission is to prepare students to learn theoretical concepts in the traditional classroom setting and to acquire practical knowledge through the internship/clinical component. Under the direction of the Sport Science faculty and staff, students select internship, practicum, and clinical experiences that match their interests, needs, and capabilities.

In addition to experiential learning, a special feature of the curriculum is the thesis component. Students conduct an intensive investigation into an area within their program of study. This serves to further enhance the collaboration between theory and practice.

The exercise science major prepares students for the expanding allied-health and fitness industry. Completion of the exercise science major enables students to pursue pre-professional programs (e.g., occupational therapy, physical therapy), strength and conditioning, graduate studies, and applied fitness and wellness opportunities (e.g., corporate wellness, hospital wellness, personal training). Students will also be able to sit for certifications from the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

The exercise science/pre-professional athletic training major allows students to earn a BS in exercise science and an MS in athletic training within 5 years of study. The program prepares students to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC) examination to be credentialed as an athletic trainer. Employment opportunities for athletic trainers include high school athletics, college and university athletics, corporate health programs, sports medicine and rehabilitation clinics, as well as professional sports teams. Graduates also pursue advanced degrees in other allied health fields including  physician’s assistant and physical therapy programs.

Sport management students will gain exposure to all business aspects of sport, athletics and recreation. Our program combines academic coursework, professional development & networking opportunities and valuable sport-related field experiences to help our students enter and succeed in the dynamic industry of sport and athletics. Our innovative curriculum is designed to support students in the development of their analytical, thinking, and communication skills. Our students can be found working around the globe, for professional teams and/or their league affiliates, colleges and universities, departments of recreation, health and wellness facilities and large corporate firms. Employment opportunities for sport management majors are found in all areas of enterprise including but not limited to operations, facility, risk & event management, financial management, media & broadcasting, sales & marketing, and promotion & sponsorship.
