ABA 855 - College Teaching Practicum FA/SP/SU
This doctoral requirement is designed a provide students with mentored higher education teaching experiences. The goal of this requirement is to provide opportunities to the student to experience evidence-based pedagogical techniques through synchronous and/or asynchronous modalities of instruction. The requirement involves two components: co-teaching and solo teaching. As part of the co-teaching experience, students are assigned to work with an experienced master’s and/or doctoral level instructor to teach in the IABS Master’s program. A coaching model is used wherein ongoing mentorship and feedback is provided, and mastery of co-teaching is measured using a data-based evaluation system. Upon passing the co-teaching competencies, the student progresses to solo teaching, where a similar data-based evaluation system is used. Student’s interests are taken into consideration while assigning both co-teaching and solo teaching experiences. It is a requirement of the doctoral program that all students must teach at least one course independently during their course of study.
