ENG 233 - Other Worlds: Fantasy Literature

Increasingly, it is through fantasy narratives that the popular imagination understands the Middle Ages. These narratives, however, are as much products of their time as explorations of the past. As such, this course explores how the medieval is reimagined in fantasy literature of the 20th and 21st centuries, in order to understand what these narratives transmit about our own time, as well as our own ideas of the past. Satisfies the Literary Perspectives General Education requirement.
