NU 315 - Intercultural Nursing: Service Learning Experience Incorporates the concepts of partnership building, risk reduction, and health promotion in communities. Students actively explore international health issues specific to the select country they are visiting and gain a better understanding of the nurses role in delivery of care and the environmental, economic, socio-cultural and political factors that influence health in a developing nation. Students participate in a service learning experience in partnership with an international community-based organization to assess health risk factors and plan health promoting activities specific to identified health issues. Students gain an understanding of physical assessment, risk assessment, unique health needs, problem posing and formulation of solutions as part of their coursework. Service also consists of help with construction projects in the community.
Prerequisites & Notes NU 210, NU 211, NU 230, NU 307 and junior or senior class status. Beginning foreign language skills helpful.
