MTH 205 - The Mathematics of Music

Students are introduced to the connections between mathematics and music, focusing on the analysis of the mathematical structure of sound, the mathematical models of the theory of the consonance, symmetry in Western music, and computer sound synthesis. Previous knowledge of musical notation is not required, some high school mathematics recommended. Satisfies Quantitative Reasoning General Education requirement.
