ENG 367 - Eastern Literature and Haiku Haiku poetry is the grasp of the essential nature of things. It is what is happening in a place at a moment. The poet describes one moment and one feeling in haiku. By studying how the form of haiku developed through the culture and literature of India, China, and Japan, students explore how this literature is grounded in Taoism, Buddhism, and Zen Buddhism. The course will trace the origins of haiku for a richer understanding of the form. Satisfies the Literary Perspectives General Education and Writing Designated core requirements.
