HST 531 - Civic Learning in the 21st Century(Cr: 3) Building on the founding principles of United States government, this course explores the importance of civic learning in the 21st century. From the study of concepts such as liberty, natural equality, natural rights, civic identity, and civic liberalism, students will explore the key components that define a common education for citizenship in a democracy. Specific social issues that can be affected by civic learning, including violence, tolerance, and substance abuse, will be explored, along with methods for implementing civic learning in the classroom for grade levels K–12.
