ABA 524 - Variations and Applications of Functional Analysis Procedures The functional analysis (FA) methodology as originally described by Iwata and colleagues (1982/1994) was one of the first published attempts to demonstrate the functional relations between behavior and the environment. Since its inception, there have been almost 1,000 published replications, extensions, and modifications to the original procedures. This course will review the history of the FA, leading up to the various published FA formats, that have often lead to successful function-based treatment outcomes. For example, modifications due to time constraints, safety-related issues, idiosyncratic variables, and practical constraints, will be reviewed. This course is based on a scientist-practitioner model, and should provide a thoughtful analysis and critique of current evidenced-based procedures and how and when they can influence practice.
