POL 260 - Identity Politics In an era of resurgent nationalism, fundamentalism, and a purported “clash of civilizations,” identity has supplanted ideology as the organizingpolitical principle of the 21st century. Using both primary and secondary literature, fiction and non-fiction, and a variety of media, this course examines the politics of American identities from the construction of a postcolonial nationalist agenda through the identity politics of the civil rights movements to a critical reassessment of American identity in the 21st century. Satisfies the Individual and Society General Education requirement.
