HLS 531 - Graduate Writing and Research in Homeland Security The purpose of this course is to provide graduate students with a foundational understanding of the research methodologies, theoretical models, and problem-solving skills that government personnel-or those employed in a homeland security-related field-are likely to encounter during their careers. Students are introduced to a variety of qualitative and quantitative research techniques and learn how best to use them when conducting case study and policy analysis research. This course will also expose students to the various writing styles used within the homeland security field teach them how to apply such styles when drafting intelligence briefings, policy memorandum, literature reviews, and other research-based writing.
