The Accelerated Initial Licensure Program in Secondary Education (5-8; 8-12, non-degree)
The Accelerated Initial Licensure Program in Secondary Education is ideal for candidates who already have strong subject matter content knowledge in the license area being pursued, seek an initial license, but do not want to complete a full master’s degree. The seven-course sequence gives students the opportunity to master practical skills of teaching and learning, develop an understanding of the most current research in the field of educational curriculum and instruction, and deliver effective instruction to today’s classrooms for diverse learners.
The Accelerated Initial Licensure Program of Study
Prerequisite: Passing score on the Communication and Literacy MTEL
To meet the licensure program requirements, students must successfully complete all of the required coursework, fieldwork, and MTELs. A passing score on the Subject Matter MTEL is required prior to enrolling in the practicum. Completion of Accelerated Initial Licensure Program in Secondary Education leads to a middle or high school initial license in one of the following fields: English, history, political science/philosophy, humanities, mathematics, biology, chemistry, earth science, physics, general science, mathematics/science.
