Master of Education: Montessori Early Childhood with Concentration in Special Needs (PreK-8)

Initial Licensure Option

An additional option for students matriculated into the Master of Education Montessori focus in Early Childhood Education is a concentration in Special Needs (PreK–8) leading to Initial Licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the program students will:
•  Demonstrate skill in planning curriculum and instruction, delivering effective instruction, managing classroom climate, promoting equity and meeting professional standards.
•  Demonstrate ability to collect, analyze, synthesize, and apply measurement data.
•  Demonstrate knowledge of and approach to subject matter.
•  Demonstrate knowledge of typical child development and exceptionalities.
 


 

Total Degree Requirements: 55 cr.


 * Pre-practicum course
** Practicum placements will meet required clock hours for PreK-8

Please note:

Students who enroll in the Special Needs Concentration must follow the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks to become eligible for Massachusetts Licensure endorsement.

The Special Needs Practicum requires 300 clock hours of in-class, supervised field placement. Supervision must be overseen by a Massachusetts Special Needs Licensed teacher.

A supervisor who possesses credentials for both Montessori Early Childhood and Special Needs field placements may conduct supervisions simultaneously. Otherwise, separate field placements are required.
