Hospitality Management

The hospitality management program includes required hospitality business courses along with hospitality elective courses that allow students to explore their individual talents and aspirations. Students may use this general degree for a greater understanding of the hospitality industry and design a course mix that sparks their interests.

Though it is not required, students may choose a concentrated field of study, and the School of Hospitality Management offers two such concentrations: events management and international hospitality management.

Events management is an emerging field that encompasses a wide variety of planned cultural, sport, political, musical, social, and business activities. The events management concentration explores the dynamics of event planning, whether they feature a private, family gathering or a large event that involves corporate sponsorship and a volunteer work force to operate. Qualified graduates have the opportunity to continue with graduate studies in events management at Leeds Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom.

The international hospitality management concentration is designed for students interested in the global arena. The concentration develops international awareness through a selection of international business courses, intercultural courses, and at least one full year of instruction in a language not their own. The concentration also requires students to complete a minimum of one semester of study abroad to immerse themselves in a different culture. This cultural dimension increases students’ sense of global awareness, whether they decide to take leadership roles in hospitality at home or abroad.
