Bachelor of Science in Interior Design

The Department of Interior Design at Endicott College offers a four-year professional learning experience for students seeking professional practice in the design of interior architectural environments. The Department’s goal is to provide students with the problem-solving abilities and creative design skills to achieve success as the next generation of interior design professionals. The baccalaureate degree program is accredited by Council for Interior Design Accreditation (formerly FIDER).

The Department employs an interdisciplinary approach to problem solving in the interior architectural environment. The curriculum presents history of art, architecture, and interior design; a design sequence that incorporates human experience and factors, techtonics, sustainability, Universal Design, and business principles; with an integral internship component. The Internship Program in Interior Design prepares students to meet the challenges of an emerging field and see firsthand the integrated components that form the interior environment. Use of technology is essential to the program.

Students in the Department can join the IIDA (International Interior Design Association) Student Chapter at Endicott College, allowing a direct connection to the professional design community.

Graduates of the baccalaureate program are qualified to join the Interior Design profession and undertake diverse project types. Upon completion of a two-year employment, graduates are eligible to sit for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) Exam to achieve Interior Design Certification recognized in 22 U.S. states.

The concentration in Sustainable Design allows Interior Design students an opportunity to pursue their interest in the natural and built environments, green design, and sustainability as an area of study. Interior Design Students engage in in-depth work applying sustainable design strategies and principles. A unique component of the concentration is an optional Global Sustainable Interior Design Studio – Study Tour. Students participate in professionally led sustainable design research in a host country, and then apply sustainable design strategies, philosophies, and practice of other cultures, as well as historical context in studio based coursework. This concentration responds to the cutting-edge design practice of “integrated design” now being incorporated by the design profession. Students may substitute IDSD 202 and / or IDSD 302 with IDSD Global Sustainable Interior Design Studio, which will allow students the opportunity to travel to foreign countries while completing the concentration.

Promotion and Graduation
Students must achieve a “C” or better in all Interior Design courses to remain in the interior design major. To obtain a “C” in an interior design course requires an average of 75 or better. Students must also have a 2.5 GPA each semester in order to progress in the program and be recommended for graduation from the interior design program. Interior Design students may repeat one interior design course (once), and remain in the major. The student may not enroll in sequential interior design courses requiring the failed course as a pre-requisite until earning a “C” or better in the repeated course.
