HST 312 - Popular Culture in American History

This course offers an introduction to the history of American popular culture, from the rise of mass entertainment in the nineteenth century to contemporary digital landscapes. Key elements in the history of film, popular music, television, sports, and advertising will be explored along with how these cultural forms helped Americans explore new values while also expressing the tensions of modern life. Satisfies the Individual and Society General Education elective and Writing Designated requirements.
