MUS 113 - Jazz Band

This ensemble explores the rich tradition of jazz through performance, focusing on swing, bebop, Latin, funk, and contemporary styles. Students will develop skills in improvisation, ensemble playing, and stylistic interpretation while performing a diverse repertoire. Open to musicians of varying instruments, this course emphasizes collaboration, creativity, and live performance experience. The Jazz Band performs several times throughout the semester both on and off campus. It is mandatory for students to perform in each of the group’s events. Course may be repeated each semester for academic credit. This course contributes 1 credit to the Aesthetic Awareness and Creative Expression General Education requirement of 3 credits.
