ENG 226 - Early American History and Literature An interdisciplinary examination of the American past up to and including the Civil War. Course covers American Indian history and culture prior to and after the arrival of European settlers; the founding of the republic; and the ideals, contradictions, and emerging identity of a growing nation. Students study key events, institutions, reform campaigns, and literary movements, and the broader cultural and ideological contexts in which they arose. Satisfies the World Cultures General Education and Writing Designated core requirements.
