HST 201 - Contemporary Approaches to History Surveys recent trends in historical research and writing and analyzes the contested nature of history and collective memory in contemporary society. Using models of scholarship on history in the United States and abroad, the course will examine the kinds of evidence and prisms (e.g. politics, race, gender, nation, culture) historians use to interpret the past and the kinds of history (e.g. narrative, comparative, biographical) they write. Required of all history majors and minors, but open to any interested students. Satisfies the Social Science core requirement.
