AMS 230 - African-American History A survey of the unique history, contributions and struggles of African Americans from 1619 to the present including: slavery; the abolitionist movement; the emergence of free black communities; the Civil War; emancipation and Reconstruction; segregation in the Jim Crow South; African American leadership and institution building in the North; Blacks during the depression and the roots of the post-WWII Civil Rights Movement. Satisfies the Arts and Humanities core requirement.
