AMS 229 - The American West Surveys the history of the American West from the pre-colonial era to the recent past. Topics include the Lewis and Clark expedition; the impact of westward expansion and government policies on Native Americans; the significance of the frontier in American history and culture; the building of the transcontinental railroad; the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II; and the West in popular culture. Satisfies the Social Science core requirement.
