School of Science and Technology The School of Science and Technology programs are designed to offer breadth and depth, combining the advantages of a liberal arts education with practical, professional experience in exciting and important new fields. Through the School of Science and Technology, students learn to think independently, develop problem-solving and methodological skills, and communicate effectively. Learning to think critically about the world through science, mathematics and computer technology enables students to excel in any career field.
Hands-on experience through applied learning opportunities offers Science and Technology majors distinct academic and professional advantages. Settings ranging from conservation centers to biotechnology or pharmaceutical companies can be rewarding internship sites for those interested in the life sciences. Those engaged in computer science practice their skills at multimedia companies, web development firms, and in the gaming industry. Students in mathematics or actuarial sciences can apply their skills in engineering firms, government agencies, or the insurance industry. Students in engineering will learn fundamental skills that can be applied in the full spectrum of engineering disciplines. Bioengineering students will apply engineering and life science skills in a wide range of careers ranging from medical devices and systems to biomanufacturing.
The practical work experience in combination with coursework within the disciplines prepares students for life after graduation, whether they choose to launch a career right away in any number of growing fields or pursue further study in graduate or professional school. Science and Technology graduates are computer programmers, biological and environmental researchers, teachers, writers and leaders within their communities. Professional and internship opportunities are limited only by the imagination of the student.
Technology Expectations
All incoming freshmen majoring in programs in the School of Science and Technology for the academic year are required to bring laptops to campus.
