In the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Communications program, students may elect to work in either Graphic Design or Photography, or an interdisciplinary combination. In Graphic Design, students obtain a thorough understanding of the concepts and techniques used in the industry including print design, typography, photo imaging and manipulation, interactive media and animation, Internet web design, and video graphics. In Photography, the focus includes expressive and experimental studies as well as practical studio work in both traditional and digital media.

All students in Visual Communications take courses that stress the development of the professional expertise needed to enter their respective fields. In our programs, emphasis is placed not only on aesthetic sensibility but also the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills. Visual communicators must develop a conscious awareness of the impact of images and communication design in a global environment along with a thorough grasp of the tools and techniques of the industry.

Endicott offers its graduates several distinct advantages, and the Department of Visual Communications is designed to complement these to full advantage. Among the benefits is Endicott’s strong internship program, exposing all students to a continuous round of professional, hands-on training in their chosen field, augmenting their on-campus courses. Also of great importance to Visual Communication students is Endicott’s Liberal Arts focus, where students have access to courses in areas such as history, the humanities, literature, science, and math. Finally, opportunities exist to study abroad in such locations as Florence, Madrid, and Mexico City, an especially appealing and beneficial option for students in Art and Design. As a result, our graduates not only receive training to develop technical and conceptualization skills, but also a broad knowledge of the world and its various cultures.

Endicott College is a pioneer in offering internships in every program of study. In addition to this invaluable hands-on experience, Visual Communications graduates develop skills and expertise that will enable them to find a wide variety of career opportunities.
